About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a small but extremely busy team contributing to the development of the Folk Hall as a community hub for New Earswick where people come to socialise, find things out and generally enrich their lives.

You will provide a full front of house service including, but not limited to, the Post Office Counter, reception work at the Folk Hall and assisting the Folk Hall Manager and Deputy Manager with the day to day running of the community centre and its programme of activities.

The Post Office is well-used within the community and during opening times is very busy, dealing with transactions and requests associated with this service.

The reception facility is central to the Folk Hall and the post holder will be responsible for being the first point of contact for customers, as well as organising and facilitating events, running reception and other general administration duties.

About you:

A good understanding of office based administrative processes and practices is essential in this role and if you can demonstrate excellent inter-personal skills along with a foundation of good customer service then this is the role for you.

Cash handling experience and dealing with customers in a retail setting are essential as will a resilience and ability to manage and prioritise a range of different tasks at any one time. Accuracy in cash handling and being numerate are also seen as an advantage.

We are particularly interested in you if you have a flexible approach and a can do attitude, willing to roll their sleeves up and assist where the need is greatest.

The Folk Hall is a thriving community centre, which has been central to the village of New Earswick as a meeting place and social centre for more than one hundred years.

With five lettable rooms (capacity 1-250), a Post Office, a 45 seat eatery and a reading café, the Folk Hall is open daily and currently has in the region of 40,000 visitors per year. Income from bookings currently totals around £73,000 and café and bar takings total around £88,000 per year.

Rooms at the Folk Hall are available for hire during the day and in the evenings all year around, and are used by a wide range of organisations from the local community and surrounding area. Everything from interviews and corporate or community meetings, to exercise classes, film nights and school reunions take place at the Folk Hall. The café is open six days a week and also caters for meetings and large scale events, such as weddings, christenings and birthday parties.

New Earswick Post Office is currently open 9.30am to 4pm Mon-Fri with a growing number of daily customers. From September 2018 the Post Office will be extending its opening hours, from 9am-6pm Mon-Fri and 9am-1pm on Saturdays, to cater for local need.

New Earswick Explore, the public library, moved in to the Folk Hall in May 2018, and will be working in partnership with the Folk Hall team to provide community activities and events alongside its library and information service.
