What is the role?

We have an exciting opportunity to lead our Sales team at Southampton Football Club. The role of Head of Sales will be responsible for setting and delivering the sales strategy for both match day and non-match day events. You will lead and coach a high performance team in delivering maximum yield per deal, and will need to create interesting and exciting incentives to motivate your team.

The role will focus on business development, and identifying areas for growth and opportunities to increase profitability. The key responsibilities include leading complex negotiations, being a leader to the wider sales and event planning teams and ensuring strategy and planning is at the forefront of new opportunities.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will be able to achieve sales growth, maximise client satisfaction and increase client spend across the club. We are looking for an individual with an analytical eye, strong organisational skills, and have an understanding on how to improve profitability whilst always having an eye into the future. We are looking for someone who is creative and will push boundaries to drive the development of operational requirements. This position requires an individual who has excellent communication skills and can liaise with all departments as well as create and drive a culture that promotes understanding and commitment. You will have a strong track record of managing staff effectively and ensuring all members of the team are using their time efficiently. The successful candidate will use long term, innovative thinking to stimulate new opportunities and will be solution focused in overcoming challenges.

The competencies which are required include:

Essential Experience:

• Must have a strong sales team background, ideally in sport / events space, with a track record of building great teams.
• Must be an advocate and user of CRM and Microsoft Excel / PowerPoint – showcasing how they being an advocate has managed business cycles and new profit.
• Experience of being Team transformational - merging different skill sets into one team identity.
• Evidence of being planned and organised; from organising projects, from start to completion through to showcasing the tools needed such as Microsoft Planner or similar, to showcase control over a fast moving environment
• Experience of Negotiation of high value deals – and extracting true profitability.
• A track record of setting incentives that transform performance – creativity is key.
• Evidence of analytical work and insight that is focussed on the bottom line, which transforms the P&L to drive upside.
• A true coach – evidence of growing talent, from technical through to softer, and clear plans on how achieved

Essential Qualifications (including certifications):
• Degree level or equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications (including certifications):
• Degree level qualification in event management or similar.
Essential Skills:
• Strong PowerPoint and excel skills to manage profitability and performance.
• Proven negotiator with clear track record of complex deals.
• Excellent communication and 'people skills'.
• Good planning and organisational skills, with track record of accurate weekly and monthly forecasting.
• Ability to prioritise resource across different sectors, with clear priority mechanisms.
• Account management across both high net customers and business, with evidence of unlocking incremental value.
