What is the role?

We have an exciting new role within the Sports Medicine & Science department at Southampton Football Club. The role of Lead Physiotherapist Scientist for the Girls & Women’s programme is a new role which will support the service provision of sports medicine to all Girls & Women’s players.

The Lead Physiotherapist will oversee and co-ordinate injury prevention, medical care and rehabilitation programmes for all injured players as well as lead and manage the senior squad player’s medical care. This role will require a level of communication with parents, players and staff to provide feedback on diagnosis and treatment of injury.

You will be working closely with Sport Scientists, Doctors, Physiologists, Physiotherapists and Coaches to ensure best methods of player physical and mental development are achieved as well as taking an active role in the Medical and Science Departments on-going CPD programme and ensure your own CPD development (minimum 36 hrs per year).

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a candidate with experience of working in a multidisciplinary sports science and medical team, where they have developed exceptional collaboration skills. You will have knowledge and exposure of manual therapy skills and sports rehabilitation as well as injury prevention methods and recovery strategies. You must have the ability to manage and support the Girls & Women’s medical care programme with excellent communication and organisational skills.

The competencies which are required include:

Essential Experience:
• Experience in working in an interdisciplinary sports science and medical team

Desirable Experience:
• Previous experience working as a physiotherapist (F/T or P/T) in an Academy setting.
• Able to demonstrate experience in managing own patient lists.

Essential Qualifications (including certifications):
• HCPC registered; CSP Chartered Physiotherapist.

Desirable Qualifications (including certifications):
• ATMMiF or old AREA qualification.
• Sports Massage Qualification / Pilates Qualification / KC Movement Solution Trained / Acupuncture.
• MSc (or equivalent experience).

Essential Skills:
• Knowledge of manual therapy skills and sports rehabilitation.
• Knowledge of injury prevention methods and recovery strategies.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Desirable Skills:
• Knowledge of movement dysfunction analysis and experience in undertaking performance stability screening.
