Part Time Caretaker - Poppleton Ousebank, York - 25 hours

This includes planned and reactive buildings maintenance services and life cycle planning, together with the provision of soft services such as front of house, catering, cleaning, grounds maintenance and site supervision.
The multi-disciplined, multi-skilled Facilities team is supported by a strong supply chain and specialist service partners. Sewell Facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year via a Helpdesk which is part of our Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system.

Reporting to the Facilities Management Team, the Caretaker will be based at Poppleton Ousebank Primary School and will have overall responsibility for maintenance, porterage and cleaning services. The Caretaker will also ensure that all services are provided to a consistently high standard and assist the Facilities Management team in all areas required to meet the needs of both the business and the client. The Caretaker will need to work flexibly to meet the needs of the team and may be required to take part in the out of hour’s on-call rota system.

Hours: 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7.00am – 12.00pm


Key Responsibilities
• Planned and reactive maintenance as required including utility monitoring
• General maintenance and repairs to building fabric and associated equipment as necessary
• Support the school in the care of on site animals, including but not limited to; letting animal out of pens and returning them at the end of the day. Being present with school staff when supervising children interacting with animals. Providing adhoc cleaning/feeding.
• Identification and reporting/repairing of maintenance requirements
• Porterage and caretaking tasks; including accepting deliveries, litter picking, weeding, removal of rubbish and the setting out of furniture to agreed timescales and standards
• Supervision and induction of Subcontractors; including checking risk assessments & method statements prior to work commencement
• Health and Safety duties; ensuring that the building is operated in a safe and legally compliant manner at all times
• Client liaison; including communication with the Head Teacher/nominated Deputy
• Health, Safety and Environmental watchdog
• Building Fire Officer
• Be a main key holder to the School, including responding to emergency call outs as part of the on-call rota system if required
• Carry out weekly cleaning audits and provide emergency cleaning as and when required
• Ensure safe pedestrian access especially during adverse weather conditions

• Have a trade background or good practical core skills together with previous maintenance experience
• A strong belief in delivering great customer service

• Excellent organisational and communication skills with the ability to prioritise a variety of tasks
• Be computer literate (Microsoft Office)
• Have a proactive attitude towards maintaining the facility at a world class quality level
• Possess a positive approach to learning, development and progression
• Have a flexible attitude towards hours worked
Desirable:
• Previous working experience within a school environment
• Previous experience working with and/or handling animals (other than household pets)
• Be First Aid at Work trained
• Hold a Valid UK Driving license
